At Zozimus, our team is a fundamental part of who we are and how we shine everyday. The foundation of our team is built on industry thought leaders, cross-functional collaborators, and people that are a whole lot of fun to work with. In this blog series, we take a deeper look at the three senior Zozimus partners and explore where they’ve been, how Zozimus came to be, and how they plan to make dreams come true into the future. To finish this series is Senior Partner, Tom Lee.
Creating Zozimus Agency
Introducing our third senior partner, Tom Lee. Tom majored in English and played football in college while attending Plymouth State University (formally Plymouth State College) in 1996. In college, Tom wrote for his school’s newspaper, “The Clock”. Tom’s uncle was a reporter for the New York Daily News, helping Tom to learn the ropes of journalism. His passion for journalism continued after he graduated, beginning his career as a newspaper reporter. Tom wrote for local newspapers in New Hampshire and Weston for a number of years.
While covering a story about the MWRA (Massachusetts Water Resource Authority), he was offered a spot on their PR team. Tom took on the role, sparking his career in communications. Eventually, Tom worked for his first agency, Regan Communications, spending 5 years working for their agency’s PR department.
After leaving Regan communications, Tom joined his former rugby teammate AJ Gerritson and Nick Lowe at their new digital marketing agency, 451 Marketing. Tom was the missing piece to the agency, kicking off the public relations department at the agency.
The agency would soon be rebranded to the name Zozimus. The name Zozimus comes from the 1982 novel by Roald Dahl, “The BFG”. The definition of Zozimus translates to “the stuff dreams are made of”. The trio of partners have built a true embodiment of this word here at Zozimus, helping clients make their dreams come true.
Creating an Agency Culture
When asked about managing Zozimus thus far, Tom said, “It has been a pleasure creating our own culture, which for me specifically means hiring good people. It is not always the best resume or career that gets you hired, it is about filling our company with good people that will do right by others and are a pleasure to work with.”
Here at Zozimus, unity and equality are promoted throughout the company. Tom wants the impact of the company’s environment to be positive for not only clients but for each and every employee.
In the future, Tom wants the company to continue to grow with intent and efficiency. Zozimus intends to continue to identify talented and caring individuals to maintain the amazing culture that Zozimus has worked to build.
Fun Fact: Tom played for the first ever USA U19 National Rugby team. He had the opportunity to play overseas in Australia, New Zealand, England & Scotland.
